Assumptions and limitations

Avalanche ranks debts by highest interest rate first, breaking ties by smaller starting balance. Snowball ranks debts by smallest starting balance, breaking ties by higher interest rate. Rankings are fixed at the start.

The total monthly budget equals the original sum of minimum payments plus your extra payment. That budget stays constant as debts are paid off.

Every month, interest is added first. Each active debt receives its fixed minimum payment, capped at the amount owed. Remaining budget then goes to the priority debt. Unused money rolls to the next debt in the same month.

Rates are fixed nominal annual rates divided by 12. Interest is rounded monthly to currency precision; payments and balances use integer currency minor units. Actual lender calculations may differ.

Minimum payments are fixed amounts entered by you, not percentages that change with the balance. There are no new purchases, fees, promotional rates, penalties, or payment-date differences.

A minimum below monthly interest can allow a debt to grow while another debt is prioritized. This tool flags that condition but does not model lender-specific minimum payment rules.

Projections are limited to 100 years. An unfinished projection is not presented as a completed payoff plan. Currency changes do not perform exchange conversion.

Entries are held in this page's state. This implementation does not save them to an account or database, so refreshing the page resets them.
